21 Moorfields is Deutsche Bank’s new UK headquarters, built directly above the live Moorgate Underground and Elizabeth Line interchange in the City of London. Six mega-arches, supported on piles driven up to 60 metres into the London clay, carry the 17-storey, 560,000 sq ft office tower across a 55-metre span above six operating railway lines and two Crossrail tunnels — all of which remained open throughout construction.
The building was designed by WilkinsonEyre for developer Landsec, with Sir Robert McAlpine as main contractor and Robert Bird Group as structural engineer. Completed in 2022, the scheme has since been named City of London Building of the Year for two consecutive years, recognised for its externally expressed steel diagram and the scale of the load-transfer engineering beneath it.
