Introducing the SeismAtec 427-A07-A09
Vexcolt has released the SeismAtec 427-A07-A09, a seismic expansion joint from the SeismAtec range designed for wall-to-wall and corner-to-wall applications where large, unpredictable movement needs to be accommodated safely. It’s built for substantial gap widths, from 100 mm up to 500 mm, and is engineered specifically for the demands of seismic activity rather than just thermal expansion.
The system uses a pan-system construction in 6063 T5 & T6 aluminium, with sealant and backer rod supplied by others at installation. It’s tested to ASTM E-1399 across three movement classes: Class I thermal, Class II wind, and critically, Class III seismic, giving it a full ±25 mm to ±250 mm movement range depending on gap width, for a total capacity of up to 500 mm.
Two configurations are available: the A07 for wall-to-wall joints and the A09 for corner-to-wall junctions, the latter with additional blockout dimensions to suit the corner geometry. Both are supplied at a consistent 20 mm height across all gap widths.
Finish options include mill finish as standard, with anodised (Anolok colour) or powder-coated (RAL colour) options available for projects with specific aesthetic requirements. The system also supports an optional 120 or 240-minute fire barrier rating, and waterproofing can be added via EPDM membrane or closed-cell foam. Pre-assembly is available on request by contacting Vexcolt directly. The product is supplied in 3-metre lengths.
The SeismAtec 427-A07-A09 is suited to demanding structural applications including airport terminals, hospitals, rail infrastructure, and high-occupancy buildings where seismic movement control is a specification requirement.
